Just to say I haven’t entirely disappeared, but have only had time in the last couple of months to post on Twitter, and that mostly links to other stories. I’ll hopefully find time to work on the content in the not too distant future. In many ways this site wasn’t meant to be an ongoing thing but more a collection of the resources on The Ring Cycle I wanted in one place and it’s mostly achieved that for me. Still a few things I’d like to add though so will be back at it soon!
Coming soon: Watch the film of Opera North’s acclaimed staging of Wagner’s epic masterpiece online, in full, for free.www.theringcycle.co.uk
A complete set of films of the Opera North Ring Cycle will be released for online streaming from Sunday 12 February, following a TV broadcast of Das Rheingold on BBC Four.
All four complete operas will be available on BBC iPlayer.
Yay! This was filmed in Leeds last year at the very set of performances I attended – so it’s going to be great. Willl we see it on Blu-ray, that’s the question.
Still running this week (three performances left) is the Minnesota Opera production of Das Rheingold – catch it while you can!
As a fan of both Wagner and the Marvel Comics Universe, I’m hoping for a nod to the Nibelungen in next year’s Thor 3: Ragnarok which has recently started filming.
There is precedent for this as a 1980 sequence of the Thor comic which saw the Asgardian tackle Alberich and the loss of the Rhine-gold. The writer was Roy Thomas, who went on to create one of The Ring graphic novels.
