As a fan of both Wagner and the Marvel Comics Universe, I’m hoping for a nod to the Nibelungen in next year’s Thor 3: Ragnarok which has recently started filming.
There is precedent for this as a 1980 sequence of the Thor comic which saw the Asgardian tackle Alberich and the loss of the Rhine-gold. The writer was Roy Thomas, who went on to create one of The Ring graphic novels.
Got my ticket for the Hallé ‘Das Rheingold’ at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on 27 November 2016. Should be fun!

After all the excitement of the Opera North semi-staged UK Tour (I caught one complete cycle and two extra concerts) and the Bayreuth Sky broadcasts I think I’ll be taking it a little slower over the rest of summer and work on a bit more content in the background while I finish the Roger Scruton book on the Philosophy of the Ring, which so far I’m enjoying very much. Will keep the Twitter feed ticking over and be back if anything exciting breaks (like the promised video release of the Opera North Leeds concerts for example) but otherwise will take a break for a few weeks. Enjoy the rest of the summer!!
If you’re a Sky subscriber you can now set your recorder for the documentary and all four Ring Cycle operas (including a live Götterdämmerung on Sunday). The timings are as follows but be warned, if you have a standard Sky box all five programmes will probably take up over 55% of the disk space if you record in HD. Time to start deleting those old episodes of Corrie you’ll never get round to watching anyway!
Note: Sky have adjusted the start times slightly and the documentary film is embedded in Das Rheingold on the listings.
